Study the following satellite image of the Earth’s Auroral Oval. When a CME has arrived on Earth, a geomagnetic storm gets triggered and the auroral oval will be largest. Use this information to find out how long it took for the CME to travel towards the Earth from the sun.

The plots on this page show the extent and position of the auroral oval at the Northern Hemisphere, extrapolated from measurements taken during the most recent polar pass of the NOAA POES satellite.
